Animals are not personal property

I do not mean to go off on a tangent here but I recently heard of two episodes involving cruelty to animals and the sentences imposed in the judicial decision.

The persons who abused the animals got off with community service and the shelters had the responsibility of providing the medical care to bring the animal back from paralysis or being put down.   THIS IS WRONG!!!

Ask any person who has an animal what their worth is – I do not care if it is a Shelter Animal or an Animal from an expensive breeder.  They will say there is no price you can set on them.

Ask any person who has a service animal – they would be lost without them.

Ask any Police Agency or Serviceman about the loyalty and devotion that their service dogs have given to them – sometimes taking a bullet to defend their “Master”.

I think it’s high time our legislators realize this fact and treat animal cruelty in any form as a felony with fines to make the person responsible for any medical bills, that are incurred in their show of manhood against a defenseless animal, and reimburse the shelters.

The persons who commit these atrocious acts have no regard for any type of human life or animal life and  do not deserve to breath the same air that we do and our animal companions do.  If they would do it  to an animal they would certainly do it to a baby or a child.

Please lobby your elected Politicians to try to get some decent legislation to protect our four legged friends who have been known to commit heroic acts to protect and serve us because of their devotion to us.

Great men have realized an animals worth to us Such As:

Leonardo Da Vinci “The day will come when men such as I will look on the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men.”

Albert Scweitzer “Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”

Jeremy Bentham ” The question is not can they reason, not can they talk, but can they suffer?”

John Mayer “Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much the larger and better in every way.”

Ghandi ” The greatness of a nation …can only be judged by the way its anmals are treated.”

Isn’t it time we commit ourselves to being human beings and respect the lives of animals in our care or if we see abuse report it and lobby our elected officials to change the laws to protect them that cannot speak for themselves.

I am retired after working as an industrial mechanic for most of my work career. I am married have had animals friends almost my whole life. This project that I have taken on has given me more satisfaction than my whole work career. So far over 600 beds and 60 cat bunks or towers have been made and donated to various shelters. Some new items were dog bunk beds and cat hammocks. I sleep at night knowing that in a small way we have made a difference in the life of the animals who have received our beds. We have sent beds to Nebraska, Texas, State of Washington and New Jersey. We have helped Eagle Scouts in their projects and in turn they have helped us.
